Out of great compassion, the Buddha established the Varṣā (Summer Retreat) — a three-month period in which monastics gather their minds, dwell in stillness, and engage in diligent study and practice, taking the precepts as their teacher and the Dharma as their refuge, thereby cultivating and deepening the merits of discipline, concentration, and wisdom.
For the monastic community, the Summer Retreat is the most important and most sacred period of practice in the entire year. For Dharma-protecting laypeople, it is likewise a rare and precious opportunity to cultivate merit.
The scriptures teach that making offerings to monastics who uphold the precepts and engage in practice brings inconceivable and boundless merit. To support the Sangha's practice specifically during the retreat period is to accumulate especially supreme merit and virtue.
A single moment of pure offering can cause the true Dharma to long remain in the world. A single monastery dwelling in peace can bring countless practitioners to fulfillment.
During this Summer Retreat, Kongshan Monastery specially establishes the 【Summer Retreat Provisions Patron】
We sincerely invite virtuous friends from the ten directions to offer support for the Sangha's daily meal provisions, so that the Dharma masters may practice in peace — listening, contemplating, meditating, and diligently walking the path.
📅 Retreat Period
June 1 – August 27, 2026 One "Provisions Patron" is honored each day.
🥣 What Your Support Covers
A special daily offering of provisions for the Sangha's needs, including cooking oil, salt, sugar, and various condiments and seasonings, offered in support of the entire monastic community of Kongshan Monastery. Any remaining funds go toward the Sangha's study, practice, daily living, and Dharma propagation activities.

During the noon meal offering, your name will be called and the following aspiration chanted on your behalf:
May you, in life after life, obtain the Mahāyāna body of leisure and endowment with its four wheels; May you enjoy abundance, ease, and freedom; long life, good health, and a complete and harmonious family; May you encounter the Buddha, the true Dharma, and the Sangha; May you diligently study and practice the complete teachings of Sūtra and Tantra; May you accomplish the merits of study and realization, and swiftly and completely attain Buddhahood.
